Our philosophy

The Reggio Emilia Approach at Pegasus

Pegasus International Preschool is a Reggio-inspired philosophy school in Novena. Discover how the Reggio Emilia approach shapes our trilingual, inquiry-based and genuinely child-centred classrooms.

The Reggio Emilia approach is a child-centred, inquiry-based philosophy of early education that sees every child as capable, curious and full of potential. At Pegasus, this Reggio-inspired philosophy underpins everything we do — our environment, our teaching, and our partnership with families.

Rather than delivering lessons to be memorised, our teachers act as co-learners and gentle guides, following children's interests and helping them make meaning of the world through real, hands-on experiences.

What it means

Principles of the Reggio Emilia approach

The image of the child

Every child is seen as a capable, competent protagonist of their own learning — full of curiosity and ideas.

The hundred languages

Children express their thinking in many ‘languages’ — drawing, building, movement, music, dramatic play and words.

Environment as the third teacher

Our classrooms and outdoor spaces are intentionally designed with provocations and open-ended materials that invite exploration.

Teachers as co-learners

Educators observe carefully, ask open-ended questions, and join in only when needed — letting children take the lead.

Documentation & reflection

Children's questions, discoveries and reflections are documented through photos and learning journals that make thinking visible.

Strong home-school partnership

Families are invited to observe, extend learning at home, and celebrate growth — a true partnership around each child.

Every child is unique and the protagonist of his or her own growth. Children desire to acquire knowledge, have much capacity for curiosity and amazement, and yearn to create relationships with others and communicate.— Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the Reggio Emilia approach

How Reggio-inspired learning looks at Pegasus

Inquiry begins with children's own questions. Teachers create provocation corners with loose parts, natural elements and art materials that spark wonder.

Projects emerge from genuine interests and run across subjects — a study of ‘gardens and bugs’ might weave together storytelling, counting, science and art.

Throughout, children's ideas are taken seriously, documented and revisited, building confidence, agency and a lifelong love of learning.

Trilingual

Reggio-inspired and trilingual

What makes Pegasus distinctive is the way our Reggio-inspired philosophy is lived in three languages — English, Mandarin and Japanese — used daily through play, songs and real conversations. Children absorb languages naturally while exploring, creating and collaborating.
